Dear Partners,
The WHO Office on Quality of Care and Patient Safety in Athens, is pleased to invite you to the high-level stakeholder event entitled “A Healthier Future for Kefalonia: Combating Obesity through Prevention and Primary Health Care”, taking place on 2–3 June 2026 in Kefalonia, at Korgialenios Library (Ilia Zervou 14, 281 00, Kefalonia).
This event is organized in collaboration with the 6th Health Region, the Association of People with Diabetes and Friends of Kefallinia, and the Greek Patient Association, following a joint initiative led by the 6th Health Region and the Association of People with Diabetes and Friends of Kefalonia. The meeting will focus on addressing obesity, with particular emphasis on childhood obesity - one of the most critical public health challenges today, closely associated with health inequities, social determinants, and the rising burden of noncommunicable diseases.
Bringing together, health authorities, public health experts, and regional and local stakeholders, the event will provide a platform to review current trends in obesity and diabetes in Greece, explore key risk factors, and identify priority prevention actions. Discussions will also highlight evidence-based interventions across health services, schools, and community settings, while promoting stronger engagement of individuals and communities in healthy lifestyles, including nutrition, physical activity, and self-care.
Your participation would be highly valued in strengthening collaboration, reinforcing political commitment, and advancing coordinated action to protect children’s health and address this pressing public health challenge.
We would be honored by your presence and look forward to your positive response.
Yours very truly,
Dr João Breda
